| Physical and Chemical Properties | Cuprous sulfide, chemical formula Cu2S. Molecular weight 159.15. Black orthogonal crystals. The specific gravity was 5.60. Melting point 1,100 °c. Insoluble in water, acetone, ammonium sulfide solution, insoluble in hydrochloric acid, slightly soluble in ammonia, soluble in potassium cyanide solution. Decomposition in nitric acid and concentrated sulfuric acid. Copper and Copper sulfide are generated by heating in the absence of air, and copper oxide, copper sulfate, and sulfur dioxide are generated in the presence of air. |

Dicopper sulphide - Introduction
Stable to heat. Can react slowly with chlorine or sodium carbonate. Good conductivity. Soluble in ammonia; insoluble in water and dilute acid; decompose when exposed to nitric acid. Toxic.
